On 3 October 2025, five courageous Upper 6 students from The Roman Ridge School set out on a transformative Adventurous Journey, as part of their Bronze Medal requirement for the Duke of Edinburgh\u2019s International Award. The two-day adventure took place near Oboadaka, beyond Aburi in Ghana\u2019s Eastern Region; a location known for its serene landscapes and the breathtaking Oboadaka Waterfall.<\/p>\n

The Duke of Edinburgh\u2019s International Award is a globally recognised program that fosters personal and social development in young people aged 14 to 24. Through a balanced framework of volunteering, physical recreation and a compulsory Adventurous Journey, the International Award challenges participants to grow into confident, resilient, and well-rounded individuals.<\/p>\n

During the expedition, TRRS Students: <\/strong>Jormor Adjei (Upper 6 Atifi), Tenzin Mainoo (Upper 6 Atifi), Coleen Cummings (Upper 6 East), Nana Akua Ainuson (Upper 6 East), and Malavika Santosh (Upper 6 East) demonstrated remarkable independence and teamwork! They navigated unfamiliar terrain, set up their own camp, and engaged meaningfully with local community members, gaining insights into the culture and environment. This experience not only fulfilled the Adventurous Journey requirement but also deepened their appreciation for civic responsibility and environmental stewardship.<\/p>\n

Under the guidance of committed facilitators: David Nyatepe (Geography Coordinator) and Ethel Quarcoo (Senior School Librarian), the students embodied the core values of TRRS, particularly our emphasis on holistic education. The Duke of Edinburgh\u2019s International Award perfectly complements our mission to nurture confident, disciplined, and socially responsible individuals.<\/p>\n
