TRRS Commemorates Black History Month

Black History Month is a time to honour and celebrate the heroes, pioneers, and change-makers who have made transformative contributions to society, shaping the world in countless ways.

On Thursday 13 February 2023, TRRS hosted an inspiring Black History Month concert, bringing the month-long celebration to life with a series of engaging and educational activities. The event focused on notable aspects of Black history, including the Civil Rights Movement, the Transatlantic Slave Trade, the stories of freedom fighters, and the lasting impact of Black musicians across genres.

Students took center stage, showcasing their talents and deep admiration for African icons through a variety of performances, including spoken word, dance, biographies of influential figures, singing, and much more. Performances featured literary giants like Ama Ata Aidoo, Efua Sutherland, and Chimamanda Adichie, musical icons like Michael Jackson, Bob Marley and Bill Withers. Freedom fighters such as Nelson Mandela and Steve Biko, along with American civil rights leaders like Martin Luther King, were celebrated and honored. A great son of Ghana, Kofi Annan, was also celebrated. The concert concluded with an energetic Afrobeat Mashup. The event was not only a celebration of Black history but also a powerful reminder of the resilience, strength, and brilliance of Black individuals throughout history.

At TRRS, we continue to celebrate and learn from the remarkable contributions of Black individuals who have shaped our world, defying obstacles and inspiring future generations.

The event was a vibrant tribute to the rich history and contributions of Black individuals throughout history. This served as a good platform for students to gain valuable knowledge about significant historical black figures and events that have shaped Black history in defiance of many challenges.
