TRRS Senior Art Students Explore LAFA Foundation Exhibition

On 27 November 2025, students from the Art and Design Department of TRRS embarked on an inspiring visit to the La Foundation for Art (LAFA) Exhibition Centre in La-Accra. The excursion featured the thought-provoking exhibition under the theme “Between Thread and Spirit Weaves Stories”, offering students a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in Africa’s rich textile heritage.

The visit aimed to broaden students’ exposure to both traditional and contemporary textile techniques, including tie-dye, batik, Adire, and weaving, while inspiring fresh ideas for their upcoming projects in material studies and surface design. Eight(8) students from Form 4 through Upper 6, guided by TRRS Art Coordinator Yaa Ossei-Poku, engaged with intricate patterns and motifs such as the culturally significant Adinkra symbols. This hands-on experience bridged classroom theory with practical application, deepening their appreciation for textiles as carriers of history and meaning.

The level of engagement was remarkable. Students not only expanded their technical knowledge but also discovered new sources of inspiration for creative work. The tactile and visual nature of the exhibition underscored the value of cultural literacy and innovation in art education.

Far more than a simple outing, this excursion enriched learning by connecting theory to practice, reinforcing TRRS’s commitment to holistic education and experiential learning. It empowered students to think creatively and apply their skills in meaningful ways. Ultimately, the visit was a journey into the heart of African artistry, encouraging students to weave their own stories through design.
