Experiential Learning at Sesna’s Patisserie

Pupils from Class 1 and Class 2 enjoyed a unique hands-on learning experience at Sesna’s Patisserie and Catering Service, as a fun and interactive extension to their Science Lessons on Materials. Pupils deepened their understanding of how a variety of materials change from one state to another; a fundamental concept in Science that connects classroom learning with real-world applications.

During the visit, pupils were guided through the process of how raw ingredients are transformed into delicious baked goods! They observed how dry and wet ingredients are carefully combined into a dough, and how this dough can be shaped using their hands and various tools. They witnessed how the application of heat from the ovens transformed the dough into a variety of pastries – a tangible, interactive way for pupils to understand material changes in a real-world context.

Pupils also had the chance to identify and discuss the various materials used in the bakery, such as metal, plastic, paper, and wood. They explored why each material was chosen for its specific role in the bakery, reinforcing their understanding of material properties and their practical applications.

A special thank you to Mrs. Lola Peprah and the wonderful team at Sesna’s Patisserie and Catering Service for their generous time and effort in facilitating this educational experience. Their guidance helped make this programme a memorable and valuable part of our children’s learning journey.
