The Roman Ridge School was honoured to take part in the 77th Commonwealth Day Commemoration Ceremony; a significant event celebrating unity, cooperation, and shared progress member states of the Commonwealth of Nations.
Held on Monday, 9 March 2026, at the Forecourt of the State House in Accra, the ceremony was jointly hosted by the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration as part of this year’s Commonwealth Day activities.
The event featured a symbolic flag-raising ceremony, reflecting the shared values and long-standing partnership among Commonwealth member countries, hosted by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC). In attendance were Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak (Minister for Interior), Dr. John Obeng Apea, (Head of Mission CWEIC), HE Dr. Christian Rogg (British High Commissioner to Ghana), H.E. Bernice Owen-Jones (Australian High Commissioner), members of the diplomatic corps and Commonwealth partners.
A delegation of Gold Medal winners from the Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition (QCEC) 2025 represented the school and were specially recognised at the ceremony, highlighting the pupils’ achievements and The Roman Ridge School’s continued record as a top-performing school in this international competition across Africa and the Commonwealth.

Special messages were delivered on behalf of Her Excellency Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey (Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Secretariat) and His Majesty King Charles III (Head of the Commonwealth). Distinguished speakers, including Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, Dr. Christian Rogg and Dr. John Obeng Apea, emphasised the importance of cooperation, global connectedness, and meaningful dialogue in addressing the challenges of today’s complex and interconnected world.
The commemoration served as a strong reminder of the Commonwealth’s commitment to promoting democratic values, strengthening international partnerships, and advancing collective development.
Our participation in this significant event offered students and educators an opportunity to witness diplomacy in action and reflect on the importance of global collaboration, mutual respect, and shared aspirations.
