On 24 March 2026, our A-Level Biology students went on an inspiring educational visit to the West African Centre for Cell Biology of Infectious Pathogens (WACCBIP) at the University of Ghana.
Designed as an inquiry‑driven, hands-on learning experience, the visit enriched their A‑Level Biology studies especially the module on genetic technology. By stepping into a world-class research laboratory, students were able to see how the concepts they learn in class translate into real scientific practice.
Inside the laboratory, students witnessed genetic engineering and other molecular biology techniques in action. They saw how such scientific methods contribute to solving global challenges, from developing new medicines to analysing DNA and enzymes, reinforcing their understanding of the scientific method in an authentic setting.
A highlight of the day was the chance to interact with scientists, PhD researchers, and laboratory technicians. These conversations offered students a clearer picture of the diverse careers available in STEM, the pathways to get there, and the day-to-day realities of research professionals. This inspired our students and left them better informed about their future choices.

For our A‑Level learners, opportunities like this turn complex scientific ideas into meaningful, real-world experiences. It offered a valuable bridge between theoretical knowledge and the dynamic realities of modern research.
We are grateful to our facilitators, Mr. Daniel Kalevor (Principal Teacher & Biology Teacher) and Mr. Gideon Ahiagbede (Biology Teacher), whose guidance and support made this experience truly impactful.
At TRRS, we remain dedicated to nurturing curiosity, critical thinking, and a genuine passion for discovery preparing our students not just for examinations, but for the world beyond the classroom.
