On 26 March 2026, our Form 3 students embarked on an insightful field trip to the Fairtrade-certified Aponapon Biakoye Organic Cocoa Farmers Association (ABOCFA) in Suhum. The visit deepened their understanding of sustainability, ethical production, and global trade key themes from their classroom learning.
During the tour, students observed Fairtrade principles first-hand, including the prohibition of child and forced labour, the use of organic and environmentally friendly farming methods, and the commitment to fair pricing for farmers. They also learned how Fairtrade premiums are reinvested into community development. A notable example was the purchase of a mower to maintain the local school grounds demonstrating how Fairtrade directly benefits the wider community.
Beyond cocoa farming, students were introduced to alternative livelihoods supported by Fairtrade, such as grasscutter rearing and beekeeping, which help farmers diversify and strengthen their income streams.
This experience closely aligns with TRRS’s mission of combining academic excellence with social responsibility. By seeing ethical and sustainable practices in action, students were able to connect theory with real-world impact, enriching their understanding of global business and community empowerment.
We extend our sincere appreciation to Mr. David Nyatepe, Mr. Eric Asare, Mr. Daniel Dodoo, and Mrs. Elizabeth Donkor for organising and facilitating this invaluable educational experience. Their dedication ensured that our students gained meaningful insights that will continue to inform their learning journey.
