On 28 May 2026, members of the TRRS Model United Nations Club took part in the 6th Model ECOWAS Summit held at the UGMC Simulation Center. Held under the theme “Peace, Stability and Social Cohesion: Unleashing the Power of Youth to Lead,” the summit provided an enriching platform for students to engage with pressing issues facing West Africa.
Discussions covered key topics including: democratic governance, youth participation and employment, regional security, cybercrime prevention, social inclusion, and regional integration. These discussions offered students a practical understanding of contemporary regional challenges, centering on the principles of leadership, diplomacy, negotiation, and critical thinking. Through lively debates and collaborative discussions, students experienced firsthand how policies are shaped, diverse perspectives are considered, and consensus is achieved.
Participants enhanced their public speaking, negotiation, and analytical skills, while gaining a deeper appreciation for respectful dialogue and cooperation in addressing complex issues.
A key highlight of the ECOWAS Summit was the opportunity to hear from distinguished leaders, including the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, and His Excellency Mohamed Hassan Kaisamba, High Commissioner of Sierra Leone to Ghana. Their messages inspired students to embrace their potential as future leaders capable of contributing to Africa’s growth and unity.
This experience reflects our commitment to holistic student development. Our students returned with a deeper understanding of diplomacy, a broader appreciation of regional cooperation and a renewed sense of purpose in their ability to make a meaningful impact.
