Clean Hands, Healthy School!

At TRRS, we firmly believe that health is wealth. Maintaining healthy, germ-free classrooms is a collective effort, and our community recently took a significant step forward in promoting student wellness.

To reinforce the importance of personal hygiene, our Registered School Nurses, Nurse Christie Boffie and Nurse Getrude Sowah, recently led an engaging Junior School public health outreach programme focused on the power of handwashing. The initiative aimed to teach our youngest pupils exactly how germs spread and, more importantly, how to stop them in their tracks.

During the interactive sessions, Nurse Christie and Nurse Getrude explained that germs are tiny, invisible organisms that easily pass from person to person. They highlighted how these microscopic threats can lead to common campus illnesses, including colds, influenza, and stomach or eye infections.

The outreach underscored handwashing as one of the simplest and most effective defences against these illnesses. The nurses demonstrated how washing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds effectively removes germs from the skin. The pupils learnt that this single, simple habit does more than just protecting the individual. It actively shields their friends, teachers, and families, ultimately reducing the spread of infections across the entire school community and keeping everyone safe in the classroom.

The educational session also covered the most critical moments for hand hygiene, emphasising that pupils should always wash their hands before eating, after using the restroom, after playing outside, and after coughing, sneezing, or touching animals.

In a memorable takeaway, the nurses reminded the children that whilst sharing is usually a core value at school, it can also be a fast track to spreading sickness. Because even healthy-looking people can carry germs without knowing it, the pupils were encouraged to avoid sharing water bottles, food, or cutlery. The event concluded with a delightful and important reminder for the Junior School. Sharing is caring-except when it comes to germs!
